About This Novel
Many, many years ago, in order to comfort a sick child, the caring Miss Potter made up a short story and wrote it in a letter and sent it to him. This was the prototype of the "Peter Rabbit" story. Miss Porter uses her most lively and vivid language to bring us into a childlike world, where our shadows are everywhere. Have we ever been naughty like Peter Rabbit and been in danger because we disobeyed adults? Have we ever been like Tom the kitten and soiled the new clothes that our mother just put on?
