About This Novel
My father, Ji Changzhou (named Jieming), was born in 1926. His ancestral home is Wuwei County, Anhui. Later, my grandfather and his family moved to Xiangyangma Ferry, Xuancheng, southern Anhui during the famine years. He engaged in cultural and educational work until his retirement. He once served as a teacher, director of Xuancheng County Culture and Education Bureau, principal of Sunbu Primary School and principal of Sunbu Central Primary School District. My father spent more than 20 years of hard work, relying on his persistent pursuit of the art of root art, the will in his bones that has been tempered by years of hardships, and his true emotional sustenance for root art, to give these rough and invisible old tree roots living, flesh-and-blood life, and even allow us to feel the leisurely and agile life.
