Days of Fighting Against Illness
by Freda Wegman
About This Novel
The author of this book is a mother whose son has gone through a long 12-year journey against AIDS. After her child was diagnosed in 1983, she became involved with the fledgling Houston AIDS Foundation. In this book, she tells the story of helping others, and how she did so with the hope of finding a way to cope with her own inevitable doom. Of course, as you will read in this book, no one could prepare for such a huge blow. This book recounts the author's own growth as she cared for her only son and countless other AIDS patients. Even her fellow volunteers are overwhelmed by the burden of the disease, embodying the despair and sadness even more deeply. Only five months after the book was published, the author won a silver medal at the Difficulty Book Expo in Los Angeles, California, on May 31, 2008.
