About This Novel

A hundred people have a hundred different opinions about the same thing. Who should you believe? People are naturally self-interested and are used to saying things that are beneficial to themselves, which makes the truth often confusing and difficult to recognize. "Rashomon" contains nineteen stories by the "genius" novelist Ryunosuke Akutagawa. Each story is an ultimate description of a kind of human nature. Times are changing and people's hearts are unpredictable, but human nature remains unchanged. Understanding human nature is the only way to understand the world. Natsume Soseki commented on Akutagawa's works: "The brushwork is solemn, without gimmicks, simple and natural, humorous, and elegant. Moreover, the subject matter is novel, the concept is insightful, the structure is rigorous, and the writing is very essential, which is admirable."
