About This Novel
There were three forces with great influence in promoting socialism in Shanghai at that time: First, the New Youth Society led by Chen Duxiu; second, the Weekly Review Society and Awakening Society founded by the Kuomintang. Weekly Review publishes the weekly "Zhou Review". The editors are Dai Jitao, Shen Xuanxu and Li Hanjun, and the contributors include Chen Wangdao, Yu Xiusong, Shi Cuntong, etc. The Awakening Society publishes the supplement "Awakening" to the "Republic of China Daily", and its editor-in-chief is Shao Lizi, a member of the Tongmenghui and a leftist member of the Kuomintang in the late Qing Dynasty. The third is the Gongxue Society organized by Zhang Dongsun and others in the Research Department, which publishes the "Current Affairs News".
