About This Novel

There is always a shining warm memory that supports us through every dark season in life. After being disfigured in a car accident, Sage became a baker who stayed up day and night. She met the elderly and lonely Joseph at a meeting of the grief counseling group. The seemingly innocent friendship between the two began to change after Joseph revealed the secret that he had buried for most of his life. Joseph, a former Nazi officer, hoped to die at the hands of the Jewish Sage in order to be forgiven. Joseph's confession reminded Sage of the past that his grandmother had never mentioned: if he had really participated in that brutal massacre, then only concentration camp survivors like his grandmother were qualified to judge whether he was worthy of forgiveness. At Sage's request, Grandma recalls how she lost her family and how she survived the Nazi era. Everything in the concentration camp is vivid in my mind, and every word is a past filled with blood and tears.
