This old man, this veteran, is called Xu Qinlin, a veteran who participated in the Battle of Kinmen in October 1949. Xu Qinlin was the only soldier who escaped back to the mainland after this battle. In February 1950, he went to the Zhoushan Islands with the Kuomintang troops. When the enemy retreated in May, he took the opportunity to run into the mountains and later found our troops attacking the island before returning to the mainland and his troops.
