Half of a Man is a Woman
About This Novel
The first novel in contemporary Chinese literature to break through the "sexual forbidden zone", it was selected as one of the "Top 100 Chinese Novels of the 20th Century" by Asia Weekly. After "I" was released from the labor camp, I met Huang Xiangjiu, a woman I had a double relationship with eight years ago in a farm that was once called "Ghost Gate". Although I had only met twice before, and the second time I met her only when passing by in a hurry, this woman named Huang Xiangjiu left an indelible impression on me. The first time I saw Huang Xiangjiu was in the drainage ditch in the rice field of the labor camp: Huang Xiangjiu was taking a bath! Huang Xiangjiu seemed to have forgotten everything and was concentrating on enjoying the joy of taking a bath. She forgot herself, and "I" also forgot myself.
