The World of "water Ghosts
by Zhu Xiaojun
About This Novel
There is a monument in Boston, USA, with an inscription written by German Protestant pastor Martin Niemola: "When they (German fascists) killed the Communists, I didn't say anything because I was not a Communist; then they killed the Jews, and I didn't say anything because I was not a Jew; then they killed the Catholics, and I didn't say anything. Still kept silent because I was not a Catholic; in the end, when they started to deal with me, no one spoke for me..." It shocked every reader's heart and highlighted the weakness of human nature - protecting oneself in a selfish way and forgetting that man is a group animal that relies on tribes or societies to survive and develop. If human ancestors had evolved to the selfish level of modern times, they would have been eaten up by wild beasts long ago.
