About This Novel

"Memoirs of Nanyang overseas Chinese" is a memoir written by Mr. Tan Kah Kee when he was hiding from the Japanese invaders and taking refuge in Indonesia from 1943 to 1945. Without any information for reference, he used his amazing memory and a sincere and simple style to describe his life experience in detail for more than 40 years. The facts recorded in the book are all the history he experienced personally. Living in Nanyang, his heart was devoted to China, especially during the arduous days of the Anti-Japanese War. He led the overseas Chinese community in Nanyang to raise funds, boycott Japanese goods, and mobilized the overseas Chinese community in Nanyang to participate in the anti-Japanese movement.

A good book, a very good book. I can see the history and the spirit of Mr. Tan Kah Kee. Some chapters are quite touching. It was really not easy for people in that era.
