Collection of Legends of Tang and Song Dynasties
About This Novel
The so-called legends refer to the short stories created by literati in the Tang Dynasty, and their content is mainly about describing anecdotes and strange events. Compared with the myths of the Pre-Qin Dynasty and the Legends of the Six Dynasties, Tang legends appeared for the first time as conscious artistic fictions. Since then, ancient novels have truly matured as a literary genre. In the late Tang Dynasty, Pei Kai took "Legend" as the title of his collection of novels. After the Song Dynasty, people generally called Tang novels "legends" based on the characteristics of such novels that they often wrote anecdotes and strange events. Lu Xun's "Intention to Correct" (preface to "Collection of Tang and Song Legends") re-edited a trustworthy collection of Tang and Song legends. Based on works such as "Wenyuan Yinghua", "Taiping Guangji", "Qingsuo Gaoyi" and other works, he selected 45 single legends such as "Gu Jing Ji", "Bu Jiang Zong Bai Yuan Biography" and "Le Hun Ji" to compile this collection. Most of the collection is famous and well-known works, all of which are from reliable versions and have been carefully edited. At the end of the book, there is a volume of "Barnyard Xiaozhu", which provides textual research and explanation on the author and version of each article.
