Tokyo 8 Square Meters
About This Novel
"Eight Square Meters in Tokyo" is a new collection of essays by Japanese-Chinese writer Shinobu Yoshii. It is his personal record of establishing an alternative daily life in Tokyo. Eight square meters is called "four and a half tatami" in Japan, which is a room with only four and a half tatami mats, and the rent is cheap. Because the eight-square-meter room did not have a kitchen, a refrigerator, a bathroom, or a washing machine, she enthusiastically wrote about how to eat and live, as well as the daily life of Japanese common people she had personally experienced. Living in a cramped living space, she extended her life to the streets and public spaces of the city, writing about laundries, sento, cafes, 24-hour comic shops, independent cinemas, small restaurants, etc. In Tokyo. She also wrote stories about the common people she met in Tokyo. These characters are "invisible, real Tokyoites". Their stories illustrate the world of Japan for us, and also reveal themselves.

Living in a small space, having everything in mind
A modern Japanese version of a single woman's shabby house inscription. Regardless of whether it is extremely complicated or extremely simple, the most important thing is to live a good life and live well in the present moment. A small space, in addition to necessary items, is to give more space to yourself, to life and to feel yourself. The author writes between the lines that I am living a good life. This is enough happiness, and it also makes people who watch it smile knowingly.
This is a book that you have the patience to read, keep up the good work
The quality of life is not completely positively related to the square meters of the room, but is related to the personal mood of whether one loves life.
It took me four days and more than eight hours to read this book in one sitting. I was pleasantly surprised to find out from the beginning that this is the author of one of my favorite books, "Four Seasons Bento", and I have always kept this paper book on my desk at home. During the holidays these days, I read while my son was doing his homework. I would read whenever I had free time throughout the day. It's really like a documentary, it's very attractive, and I have the motivation to read it in one go! The author is a Japanese girl who studied in Chengdu, China, married a Chinese, lived in China for 15 years, and returned to Japan alone after the divorce, living in an eight-square-meter room in Tokyo! The whole book is written in Chinese by the author, I admire it very much! It seems to be a prose record of life, but it actually records Japanese culture, the living conditions in Tokyo, the author's attitude towards life, and his open-mindedness in dealing with people. Including the experience of renting a house in Japan, sento culture, coffee shops, and garbage sorting, the world beyond eight square meters is really vast. There are also late-night radio stations, rakugo culture, independent cinemas, and the experience of learning shamisen, which also allowed me to understand and learn a lot of knowledge. Through the author's personal experience, you will follow her story, the people around her, her attitude towards life, and her own state of mind. After reading the whole book, I wrote more than two hundred notes and thoughts, which gave me a lot of ideas about life, family and friends, life, objects, etc. It also brings back a lot of good memories. There are thousands of people with different experiences, and everyone's reading experience will be different! Recommended to friends who are anxious or need someone to talk to in modern society. It is an old friend that will make your heart stable and happy!
