Leavenworth Case (world Classic Mystery Library 1)
About This Novel
A millionaire was killed in his library when he was shot in the head from behind with his own pistol while checking out a book he planned to publish. The library door was locked, and there were no signs of violent entry or any sign of a struggle. There was no one else in the house except the deceased's two nieces and his servant. During the investigation, the protagonist Raymond found that the evidence pointed to Mary, one of the rich man's nieces, but Raymond felt that she had concealed something in her confession. During further investigation, Raymond found out the secret hidden behind it. The author deliberately leads readers astray and makes the process of solving the case tortuous and bizarre. Many plots and elements in the novel have been used for reference in many subsequent detective novels, such as secret room murders, lost keys, fragments of burned letters, missing maids, etc.
