"Uncle Tom's Cabin" is an anti-slavery novel published by American writer Mrs. Stowe in 1852. The novel's views on African Americans and American slavery had a profound impact, and to some extent intensified the regional conflicts that led to the American Civil War. The novel uses interspersed narratives to describe the different encounters of two black slaves, Tom and George, along two parallel lines. It creates typical images of the loyal, friendly but submissive Tom and the brave and resisting George couple.
