About This Novel
If I were to say the saddest thing in the world, it would be that when I was nearly forty years old, I bought a building and a car, and when my son was admitted to college and could retire in a few years, a bolt of lightning struck my head. If we were to say that the happiest thing in the world is, it would be when I opened my eyes as a child and discovered that the family I was born into was actually the richest man in the world. I had no worries about food and clothing, and I was the only son in the family. If we say the most lonely thing in the world, it is the helplessness of discovering that you have a lot of talent, but you just have to gnaw at it, and everything is at your fingertips.
