About This Novel
In 1930, Feng Youliang became a junior police officer in the Shanghai Police Department. That day, he was patrolling Minhe Road with a rubber stick when he suddenly heard someone calling his nickname, A-Liang. He took a closer look and saw two men and two women standing in front of him. They were all young people about the same age as him. They were all sallow and thin and dressed in rags. The two women were both wearing men's jackets. If it weren't for the braids on the back of their heads, they would be unrecognizable as young girls. Their images told Feng Youliang that these were four wanderers. There are countless such wanderers on the beach in Shanghai, either due to war or natural disasters. Refugees from neighboring Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces have fled their homes and thrown themselves into this prosperous place to survive. Feng Youliang also came to Shanghai from northern Anhui three years ago. After going through many hardships, he got a job as a police officer and escaped the tragic fate of living on the streets. Now that I heard the familiar accent, I couldn't help but tremble all over.
