Behind Sagamihara Station on the Japan Railway's Yokohama Line is YED, the U. S. Army's Sagami General Supply Depot. It was a base that caused social problems by transporting military vehicles to Vietnam. At about 8 o'clock in the evening on October 1, a fire broke out in Misangcao Town, not far from YED. Due to a long period of clear skies and dry weather, the fire spread quickly. The fire scene was a bungalow house, which was quickly burned down. About five minutes after the fire was discovered, Sagamihara City fire engines rushed to the scene to start extinguishing the fire, but there was a strong east wind that night and they were helpless. Firefighters had to focus on preventing the fire from spreading too quickly, and a body was later found at the scene of the fire.
