Sudden Death
About This Novel
In Europe in the 16th century, religion was changing, art was blooming, and the land was engulfed by desire and drowned in blood. The story of "Sudden Death" takes place in this time and space. The Italian painter Caravaggio and the Spanish poet Quevedo fought on the tennis court. It was the time of the Counter-Reformation, and several popes who were watching their games soon started a bloody storm. Moving forward a bit, in England, Henry VIII executed his queen, Anne Boleyn, and had her hair made into four tennis balls and named them "Boleyn Balls." In Mexico, the conquistador Hernán Cortes destroyed the ancient Aztec civilization and established a colony... Several story lines were cut into pieces, mixed with the author's narration of modern life, interspersed throughout the book, and their common points secretly intersected. There are countless historical celebrities who appear in the book: Caravaggio, Quevedo, Galileo, Anne Boleyn... This is an almost crazy, imaginative but perfectly pieced together novel.
