About This Novel

Hilary Mantel, a two-time Booker Prize winner and the author of "Wolf Hall" and "Legendary", is a collection of short stories; class gaps, social conflicts, family black holes... All kinds of problems are reflected in "Assassination"; with delicate characterization and keen observation of details, each novel in "Assassination" can evoke the hidden things behind daily life. Finally, that kind of blood-curdling fear - typical Mantel-esque Gothic style; the main short story "Killing Thatcher" was shortlisted for the BBC Short Story Award - a political fantasy show about the assassination of Margaret Thatcher; "Assassination" is a collection of short stories by British female writer Hilary Mantel published in 2014. A total of 11 short stories are included, most of which were written by Mantel at the invitation of newspapers such as The Guardian or the London Review of Books, but many of them have been selected for various "Best of the Year" short story awards. These eleven short stories have different themes and lengths: a failed ethnic integration ("Sorry to Bother You"), a chilling and "intentional homicide" traffic accident ("Winter Vacation"), a family swallowed up by the alienation of social "trends" ("Heartbeat Arrest"), and a female writer who is at a bottleneck in her career and asks how writing can interfere with life ("How Do I Recognize You"). The most eye-catching one is "The Assassination of Thatcher". The story cleverly leads readers to another possibility of history through fictional assassinations of real historical figures.
