This book mainly uses "community imagination" as the main line to study Canadian poetry creation over the past 200 years, including several major periods in the history of poetry: the pioneer period, the Federation period, the first half of the 20th century and the "Founding of the Nation" period. It overall highlights the evolution of the national imagination of Canadian English poetry from "community" to "pluralistic community". The main part includes four major chapters: "Towards "Community": Historical Politics and National Construction", "Experiencing the Wind and Snow: Natural Themes and Regional Poetics", "Revealing "Postmodernity": Internationalism and Formal Techniques" and "Toward "Pluralism": Multiculturalism and Rewriting of Ethnicity", which respectively start from the historical perspective. It analyzes Canadian poetry from four aspects: imagination, space construction, formal techniques and ethnic identity. Taking the most accomplished and representative poets and their works as the focus, it studies the national construction process of Canadian English poetry and explores its differences from the colonial psychology of Britain and the United States and the regional characteristics of the North.
