Aunt's Burning Place
by Black Sheep
About This Novel
There is a slope in Longdongping, my hometown, surrounded by mountains on three sides, with many lacquer trees growing in the middle. People call it Lacquer Bay. Deep in Lacquer Bay, there is a rocky hill surrounded by a stone wall. In the center of the rocky hill is a barren land with an area of less than ten square meters. There is no vegetation or trees growing there yet, and it is very hard and exposed, like an eye staring at the sky that will never be willing to close. This barren land is the place where my great-aunt Jingu Azhi, five generations removed, was burned. The stone wall outside the incineration site was a protective wall built by her uncle, my grandfather, who was separated by three generations, to shield her soul from the cold wind and prevent her from being allergic to lacquer. When my grandfather was five years old, his parents died and he was adopted by his cousin. My aunt and my grandfather are the same age. They grew up together, herding sheep and working together. They have a very deep relationship. They are called uncle and nephew, but they are actually brother and sister.
