About This Novel
Adria's father is engaged in antique trading and his whereabouts are mysterious when outside. At home, he spends all day in his study playing with antiques. The study full of rare treasures is Adria's base for eavesdropping on family secrets. What attracts him most is a Storioni violin made in the 18th century. He secretly lent the priceless violin to a friend, but received the bad news that his father died unexpectedly and his body was separated. As time passed, the truth gradually seeped out of the study, and Adria's story unfolded like a long scroll. The novel is based on Adria's life memories, with scenes flashing back across centuries of European history: the Italian violin town of Cremona, the Spanish Inquisition, Rome before and after World War I, monasteries across Europe, Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration camps, Barcelona in different periods... What remains unchanged is sin, redemption, revenge, love and loneliness.
