Broken Bridge
by Zhou Heng
About This Novel
The reason why it is called a broken bridge is because the bridge is so damaged that it is about to collapse! The bridge railings on both sides were either missing arms or legs; the gravel road above them had long been pockmarked by cars and small four-wheel tractors. Whenever heavy vehicles pass by the bridge, the whole bridge will tremble as if there has been an earthquake of magnitude 8:00 or so. If it rains or snows, the bridge will turn into a puddle of thin mud. Once a car or tractor gets stuck in it, no matter how hard the driver scolds you, it won't help. The driver had no choice but to come down and buy a few packs of good cigarettes from a nearby shop. He nodded and invited a few strong laborers to push hard from the back of the carriage. The people in front had to drive hard to get out! One night, two peach blossoms under the broken bridge bloomed as red as flames, ignited by the sparks from the collision between men and women last night.
