As the hometown of local chronicles, Ningbo has a large number of local chronicles documents, covering a wide range of contents, many categories, voluminous volumes, and profound contents. However, these precious local chronicles documents, which are comprehensive in categories, are large in length, and how to use them is confusing to those who compile and use them. In view of this, this book conducts two aspects of research on Ningbo local chronicles. The first is to comprehensively explain the development history of Ningbo local chronicles documents: from their birth before the Tang and Five Dynasties to the development and perfection in the Song and Yuan Dynasties, and then to the overall prosperity in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, to the inheritance and innovation in the Republic of China, and in-depth analysis of the laws and historical enlightenment. The second is to systematically introduce the total amount, types and collection status of existing local chronicle documents in Ningbo; the revision status, main content, compilation characteristics, historical data value and other contents of Ningbo local chronicle classics. The study of local chronicle documents is still in its infancy in the Chinese academic community. The publication of this book provides a better model for the study of local chronicle documents and will surely vigorously promote the research and development of local chronicle documents and local chronicles in my country.
