The writing of national history in Western Europe can be traced back to the ancient Roman period. In the Middle Ages and early modern Europe, historians told the stories of various ethnic groups and clearly expressed the concept of national political and cultural unity. By the Renaissance, humanist historians from various countries accepted the theme of the nation-state. This book systematically explains the entire process of the development of national history writing in Western Europe during the Renaissance, and conducts comparative research on the contributions of various regions and countries to national history writing, as well as the development paths of their respective national historiographies. We believe that this not only enables us to have an in-depth understanding of the process of Western European historiography moving into modern times, but also enables us to explore the impact of the new factor "nation" on historical scholarship in the early modern period and reveal the interactive relationship between politics and academia.
