Lao Ji is Sick
by Lin Dang
About This Novel
One afternoon in early summer, Lao Ji was walking on Xiangning Bang Road in Zhoujiajiao Town, his steps a little slow. Xiangning Bang Road used to be a river bank, but later the river was filled in and the road was built. The filled-in river had been seen by Lao Ji when he was a child. Water chestnuts grow in autumn and lotuses grow in summer. In spring, ducks swim with their children in winter. When the water flows, it is as clear as a mirror, and when it freezes, it shines brightly. As this river that sometimes flows and sometimes freezes meanders forward on Lao Ji's mind, Lao Ji's steps become softer and softer, and there is still a slippery feeling under his feet, but reason tells him that he is not walking on the river, but on the road. As he walked on the road, he saw several familiar faces and felt as if something was wrong with his body. In fact, he had felt the signs of a problem a few days ago. His smoking was tasteless and his drinking was choking. These were warnings sent by his body to him, but he ignored the warnings. He thought it would be over as long as he endured it for a few days. This is how he stood up for many years.
