About This Novel
The story takes place at Lingshui Station, a subsidiary of the Northern Railway Bureau. Under the new situation of reform and opening up, the "iron boss" cultivated by the planned economy in the past has long lost its glory. Insufficient supply of goods, overcapacity, sharp decline in income, frequent accidents, laid-off employees... Various shortcomings have made these talented people trapped in all sides: what they have to deal with every day is how to implement the rigid layoff and attrition targets, how to solve the labor problem of monthly arrears of wages, and how to deal with the hands of interests extending from all directions; there is not much energy left to really focus on production and management. As an important station under the Northern Railway Bureau, Lingshui Station is also in the "labor pains" on the eve of reform.
