About This Novel

"Dr. Margaret's Locker" is the first in the "Azadi Series" of books about India's freedom from British colonial rule. In 1965, a suitcase more than a century old was discovered in a Delhi hospital storage room. The box is believed to belong to an American doctor named Margaret and contains her diary and other precious relics including the crown of the ancient Indian kingdom of Tashi. Margaret was an American of Scottish descent and was born into a Presbyterian family in New Jersey. In 1850, Margaret obtained her wish to practice medicine and became one of the first female doctors in North America. When the Crimean War broke out in 1854, she served in the army with her Canadian husband (who was also her cousin). The couple not only had to face the cruelty of war, but also endured other unexpected conflicts. Margaret lost her husband in the infamous "Hussars' Charge" and found herself in a dilemma.
