"Caesar and Christ" is the third volume of the "The Story of Civilization" series of "Utopia Classics Hall". The fall of the Roman Empire was neither due to the invasion of barbarians nor the rise of Christianity. In fact, when the barbarians invaded and Christianity flourished, only an empty shell remained of the Roman Empire. The basic reasons for the decline of the Roman Empire lay in its people, its moral ethos, class struggles, the decline of commerce, bureaucratic despotism, heavy taxation, and costly wars.
