This book is revised and completed by the author on the basis of his doctoral thesis. The Puerto Rico issue has been postponed to this day due to strategic, economic, and cultural considerations of the United States. This book attempts to use detailed historical materials, research results of Western scholars and newspaper documents to peek into the political issues of Puerto Rico under the US colonial rule, with the aim of briefly sorting out the US policy towards Puerto Rico for more than a hundred years, and comprehensively analyzing the historical inheritance of Puerto Rico's political issues through four aspects: US government decisions, congressional acts, local political trends in Puerto Rico, local populism, and the independence movement.
