About This Novel

From the 3rd to 2nd century BC, the Roman Republic suddenly became the dominant power in the Mediterranean. This book uses a fast-paced narrative to tell the story of Rome's first set foot on the Greek mainland, to the establishment of a balance of power among Macedonia, the Achaean League, Pergamon and Rhodes, and finally to the elimination of the biggest resistance to the Eastern Expedition - the Macedonian kingship. It presents Rome's gradual and unstoppable trend of hegemony. Based on a global perspective, the author explores the transformation of Roman imperialism from remote control to direct rule; he also digs vertically to think about the absorption, suppression and self-shaping of Greek culture by Roman culture. By conquering Greece, Rome was finally able to establish hegemony in the Mediterranean.
