About This Novel

"History of Opera in the Song and Yuan Dynasties" is the first treatise in my country that systematically studies the development history of opera. The book consists of sixteen chapters, mainly discussing the origins of Zaju in the Song, Jin and Yuan Dynasties, dramatic literature and its influence on later generations, as well as tunes and performances. It also introduces the situation before the Song Dynasty, after the Yuan Dynasty and the Southern Opera in the Yuan Dynasty. This book examines the formation, evolution, and development of Chinese classical opera, depicts clear paths and clues, and makes a specific analysis and development of the artistic characteristics and aesthetic value of the opera language. When the "Posthumous Notes of Mr. Wang Jing'an of Haining" were included in this work, it was renamed "A Study of Operas of the Song and Yuan Dynasties". "History of Opera in the Song and Yuan Dynasties" was originally published by the Commercial Press in September 1915. This publication uses the "Small Series of Chinese Studies" series edition of the Commercial Press in March 1933 as the base, and the cover also refers to this edition. On the basis of retaining the language and writing habits of the time, the text, punctuation, etc. Were corrected and modernized. At the same time, rare words were notated and explained in the form of under-page notes to help readers better understand.
