About This Novel

This book is an attempt by Chinese and Western scholars to jointly write the history of Christianity in China. It aims to learn from and integrate the Chinese and Western research methods and results that have emerged in the past 30 years. Through two parts: chronicle and thematic history, it strives to present a readable, accurate, and interdisciplinary history of Christianity in China to help us better understand the historical phenomenon of the sinicization of Christianity. Today in the 21st century, when people look back at the history of Christianity from the West to the East from a cross-cultural perspective, they will find that it has gone through a long process of adjustment in Chinese society, during which there were cultural collisions and agitation, as well as frustration and discomfort; there were ideological confrontations and oppositions, as well as understanding and recognition. Although Christianity has limited influence in China, it is an important example of cross-cultural communication. The Sinicization of Christianity proves that China is not a closed country. Even if Christianity is very different from the local culture, it can be absorbed and evolved into Chinese Christianity, thus becoming a part of Chinese history and culture.
