About This Novel

"General History of Taiwan" is the masterpiece of Mr. Lien Chan's grandfather, the famous Taiwanese historian Lien Heng. The author has spent decades collecting Chinese and foreign documents, archives, and rumors about Taiwan, and imitated the style of Sima Qian's "Historical Records" to write this book. The book begins in the Sui Dynasty and ends with Japan's occupation of Taiwan in the late Qing Dynasty. All Taiwan's politics, military, economy, products, customs, and people are discussed in this book. Special attention was given to the mainland people's expansion of Taiwan and the Taiwanese people's fight against the aggressive wars of the Dutch, British, French, Japanese and other imperialists. Reading through the whole book, it is not difficult to see Mr. Lian Heng's patriotic sincerity.
