The Decline of the West

About This Novel
The Decline of the West is a provocative and controversial book that strikes a blow against an age of complacency and blindness. While the Arab world is struggling for democracy, and while China is striving to move from economic liberalization to a society governed by the rule of law, European and American societies are squandering centuries of accumulated institutional advantages. Ferguson warned that if we want to curb the declining trend of the civilization that once dominated the world in Western society, we can only rely on strong leadership and drastic reforms.

The title of this book is too big, and it seems to be unworthy of its name.
Personally, I think there are quite a few problems with this book, mainly including: 1. The title of the book is too big, The Decline of the West. At first glance, this title gave me the impression that it was going to comprehensively analyze all aspects of problems in the West, political, economic, and cultural. I felt that the length should not be small, but this is the content? 2. The author of this book has a certain understanding of Western issues and has seen some phenomena, but I personally think that the author cannot see or avoids the fundamental issues. The fundamental reason for the decline of the West is that the stagnation of economic development has intensified social and class conflicts. However, as a Westerner, the author of this book does not dare or is unwilling to mention economic issues causing class conflicts, and attributes all Western problems to the system, which leads to failure to analyze the fundamental issues. 3. Between the lines, I can still feel that the author still has illusions about the Western system and even has a sense of arrogance. He feels that the West can still solve problems on its own and that non-Western countries should still regard the West as a learning object. This book was written shortly after the financial crisis, and about ten years have passed since then. I wonder what the author would think if he saw the current Western society? Will you still be so stubborn?
Good reading, good reading, good reading.
