About This Novel

Is the direction of major junctures in history really determined by rational decisions made by rational people? Empress Dowager Cixi west Shou understands the twenty years of the late Qing Dynasty and understands the rush and agitation of society in the late feudal empire. In 1900, during the Gengzi Incident, the Queen Mother of the Qing Dynasty went on a "hunting expedition" to the west. This independent historical event is related to the historical trend of Chinese society. The author enters with a small incision from the perspective of big history, uses new research materials, and uses rich details to show this great turmoil that started from the private grudges of a family and ended in the fate of the country. It intersperses the political entanglements, character relationships, and Manchu-Han conflicts in the last two decades of the late Qing Dynasty. Against the background of the international environment and folk religion, it presents the vividness of history, the vividness of characters, and the tragedy of fate. The empress dowager's journey to the west is closely related. The historical context of the last two decades of the late Qing Dynasty and even modern Chinese society can be clearly seen and explained here.

You can see how these declining aristocrats play tricks to bring disaster to the country and the people! The reading feels smooth and warm.

Highly recommended, very readable.

This is the physical book I read. It is very good. It explains clearly the events leading up to and after the Gengzi Revolution in the late Qing Dynasty, from the "eldest brother establishing the crown prince" to the rise of "Magic Fist". I have never understood before that if it is understandable to say that the grassroots believe in "Magic Fist", then how can high-level officials like "Lafayette" believe in it? ? After reading this book, I finally understood that they did not really believe in it (of course there are some who really believed in it), but they just thought that "the people's support can be used". In the end, the Eight-Power Allied Forces entered Beijing. Cixi took Guangxu and fled westward in a hurry, protecting each other in the southeast, and the reality of the empire was clearly visible.

[Reflections after reading "The Queen Mother Runs West"]

It is obviously a game between the nobles of Tianhuang, but the final price has to be borne by the most innocent ordinary people. The most annoying thing is that the culprit (Duan Wang) can actually die a good death with gold and silver. It is really indescribable. The misunderstandings between the Qing court and foreign envoys piled up one after another, eventually leading to a chaos that spread throughout the city of Beijing. History is just like this. Is the public support available? Is that really what the people want? It's just a rabble partying. Main battle? Main peace? Everyone has their own thoughts. Some people have their own little ones, some are really stupid, and some are soft-spoken. However, the consequences of the person with the highest position of power (the Empress Dowager Cixi) speaking out are wavering and even unable to listen to the voices of opponents. In the end, no one dares to persuade. It is a true statement that the people will suffer when they rise and fall. People who have lost their integrity are not necessarily innocent people. People who are ambitious but incompetent but occupy high positions (Xu Tong, Weng Tonghe) are not a blessing to the country. Dong Fuxiang, Rong Lu, Nie Shicheng, Guangxu, Yuan Shikai, Li Hongzhang, Zhang Zhidong, Liu Kunyi, Sheng Xuanhuai and countless figures in the late Qing Dynasty almost all performed on this stage.
