About This Novel

This book is based on the author's more than ten years of travel in the Pacific region from 2008 to 2019 and his personal experience as a rescue worker participating in disaster relief work in the region. The stories in this book cover 11 countries in the region and cover an unusually wide range of content, from the New Caledonia uprising to the Tonga tsunami. It not only explores macro issues such as race, colonization, climate change, nuclear testing, resistance movements, and cultural preservation in the Pacific, but also discusses urban life, and even more personalized micro experiences such as local delicacies and sunset surfing. The author believes that although the many islands in the Pacific region are a region that needs external guidance in terms of economic, environmental and strategic development, the complex and ancient society and its transformation process in this region should be shown from the perspective of the rights and interests of countless islanders.
