What I hate the most when reading Hong Kong novels is that the timeline is too messy. A difference of a few years is normal, but a difference of twenty or thirty years is too much! Prison Time was a movie made in the 1980s, and Furious Cases was a movie made in 2020. Even if those policemen served ten years in prison, and the timeline is advanced ten years, there would still be a time difference of more than 20 years between Furious Cases and Prison Furies. In the 1980s, we still used mobile phones, but in 2010, smartphones came out. How can we write reasonably about technologies that are so different?
