About This Novel

In 1927, when Shanghai was in turmoil, Su Qingyuan, a scholarly lady from the south of the Yangtze River, went to Shanghai to escape the chaos. At an industrial exhibition, she met Lu Jingyuan, an engineer who had returned from studying abroad. One writer and one worker, one in the south and one in the north, in a magical city where Chinese and Western cultures agitate, the two fell in love with each other because of their ideals and emotions, but they were blocked by their families and separated by class gaps. In the turbulent times, the situation in the north suddenly changed and the economic crisis hit. A hasty farewell at the station left the two people separated. Letters were interrupted, misunderstandings arose, family pressure and reality discussions ensued. They struggled to grow up in the north and the south, holding on to the vague agreement in the ups and downs of troubled times. When Jinling reunites in 1934, can the dusty love be rekindled? Can the time that has been torn apart by the times be filled by persistent waiting? In this turbulent era, can this pair of lovers overcome numerous obstacles and find their way back to each other?
