About This Novel

Yunshang, a female official who served as a chambermaid in the court of Emperor Puyi Kant during the Japanese-Puppet Manchuria period. The young Yunshang hated her father for marrying a Japanese woman and abandoned her brother and mother. However, she was taken away by the Japanese woman and renamed Yuko Yoshioka. A few years later, she was trained by the inner court nun to serve as an inner court maid of the new Manchuria government. She struggled to survive in the prison of this apocalyptic palace, and saw all kinds of conspiracies and power struggles. Gradually, I came to understand the helplessness and tragedy of my father, who appeared to be a translator for the Kwantung Army, but was actually an anti-Japanese hero who was secretly loyal to the Nationalist government.
