The book takes the political career and fate of Andokides, an orator who was active in the Athenian political arena at the turn of the 5th and 4th centuries BC as the main line, and dares to explore the situation of the nobility under democratic politics and its relationship with democratic politics. In terms of research methods, the author uses Andokides's speech as the basic text, refers to the records of classical writers such as Xenophon, Diodorus, and Plutarch, and conducts textual research on Andokides' life and related major political events on the basis of verifying the authenticity of historical materials. Then Andokides is placed in the grand background of the politics of the Athenian city-state, and with the help of relevant discussions by modern scholars such as Grote, Liangnet, Rhodes, Davis, and Ostwald, the basic situation of the political operation of the Athenian city-state at that time and the relationship between the fate of individual citizens and other issues are discussed. Finally, taking the personal political fate of Andokides as an example, this paper examines the situation of the nobility under democratic politics and its relationship with democratic politics, and then reveals the basic characteristics of Athenian democratic politics in that period.
