About This Novel
This book is divided into three parts to analyze the era of European line tactics, especially the battles during the Napoleonic Wars. The first part - "The Late Ulcer: The Last Great Battle between Britain and France in the Napoleonic Peninsular War" tells the story of Napoleon's army's battle history in the Spanish Peninsula, the "ulcer of the empire" when Europe was in smoke in 1813, as well as the political and economic game behind it. The second part, "Deadly Skills," consists of two articles. "The Persistence of Earth and Stone: A Brief History of the Transformation of Western Fortresses," which tells the story of Europeans' battles for attacking and defending fortresses from the Middle Ages to modern times; "The Forward Sails: British and French Sail Battleships and Naval Tactics during the Napoleonic Wars," which tells the story of the struggle for sea power during the French Revolutionary War from 1792 to 1815. The third part is "The Marshal's Scepter: "Military Studies", the posthumous work of French Marshal Ney. This article is translated and compiled from the manuscripts that Ney wrote to his generals when he was the commander of the Montreuil Camp in 1804. From it, we can see the daily operations and daily life of ordinary soldiers and commanders at that time.
