"Intoxication" is a novel written by Zhang Henshui. It is set in Chongqing on the eve of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. It depicts social chaos such as collusion between officials and businessmen, gold speculation, and the degradation of women, and reveals the reality of social moral decay and human alienation in the wartime rear areas. Zhang Henshui used a realistic approach to depict wartime beings, breaking through his romantic style. It is regarded as an important representative work of Zhang Henshui's literary creation transformation. Mao Dun once commented that he "uses popular writing methods to write about the troubled times".
