About This Novel

The novel consists of five stories, each story tells a fragment. The first chapter "Bella" (Бэла) tells the story of Bi Qiaolin meeting the young and simple Bella, hoping to draw new life motivation from his love for her, but instead of saving him, this love brought destruction to Bella. The second chapter, "Maxim Maximovich" (МаксимМаксимыч), tells the story of the meeting between Bicholin's former commander and friend Maxim Maximovich and the indifferent protagonist. Beecholin went to Persia and died on the road without purpose or purpose. The tragedy of the protagonist of the novel is deepened on a psychological level through Bi Qiaolin's diary. The diary is divided into three stories, which are the relatively independent "Taman" (Тамань), "Princess Merry" (КняжнаМери) and "The Fatalist" (Фаталист). "Taman" tells the story of Bi Qiaolin who nearly died when he followed a smuggler out of curiosity. "Princess Merry" can be regarded as an independent work, and at the same time it is the most important part of "Modern Heroes". During the period of convalescence, Bicholin pretended to pursue Princess Merry out of jealousy of Grusinitsky and in order to indirectly get close to his old lover Vera. As a result, he was retaliated by Grusinitsky. Bi Qiaolin decided to end the matter with a duel. He killed Grusinitsky and abandoned Princess Merry, but Vera had quietly left him. "The Fatalist" is a psychological story, the last one in the novel, proving that Bi Qiaolin can still make a difference no matter what.
