Out of defense of the classical humanistic tradition, he refused to use any modern disciplinary paradigm to systematize his thoughts. Instead, he adopted a subtle way of speaking and integrated his own thinking into his works, lectures, and thousands of letters left during his lifetime. This book selects 181 of Burckhardt's most representative letters, including 9 diaries from his stay in London in 1879, which provides a panoramic view of Burckhardt's life and thinking from the age of 20 to the eve of his death.
