Six Chinese Web Novel Platforms by the Numbers

About 5.75 million listed books on six platforms, and no two of them are built the same way. Here's the whole map in four tables.

本文为英文。

DaoSearch lists about 5.75 million Chinese web novels across six platforms. Earlier posts counted Qidian, Fanqie and JJWXC and the biggest genres. Faloo, Qimao and Zongheng have joined since, so this is the same count done for all six.

Every figure is as of October 2026 and rounded. The live numbers are on the stats page and move every day.

How big each one is

Books listed is counted the way the stats page counts it: every book with a title that we haven't hidden, filed under the platform that first carried it. A novel that sits on two platforms is counted once, under its primary one. Print editions, stubs, drafts and duplicate copies are held but not listed, so these are novels and not everything a platform has ever hosted.

Books listed Authors Completed
JJWXC about 1.99 million about 1.06 million about 584,000
Fanqie about 1.86 million about 993,000 about 944,000
Qidian about 1.01 million about 678,000 about 437,000
Faloo about 664,000 about 340,000 about 72,000
Zongheng about 114,000 about 80,000 about 83,000
Qimao about 112,000 about 71,000 about 106,000

Two things stand out. JJWXC is still the biggest by raw count, because anyone can post there. And Qimao and Zongheng are small. They're each about a tenth of Qidian's size. The whole catalogue is about 5.75 million books. Its author count is smaller than the sum of the rows, because one author can publish on more than one platform.

How many are finished

Completed Share of the platform
Qimao about 106,000 about 95%
Zongheng about 83,000 about 73%
Fanqie about 944,000 about 51%
Qidian about 437,000 about 43%
JJWXC about 584,000 about 29%
Faloo about 72,000 about 11%

This is the widest spread in the whole post. Almost everything Qimao lists is finished. At the other end, only about one Faloo book in nine is marked complete.

The numbers measure different things, though. Qimao's catalogue is mostly finished books, while most of what Faloo lists is still serialising or was left behind. "Ongoing" just means the author never marked a book done, and plenty of ongoing books stopped years ago. The Updated filter sorts the live ones from the dead ones.

How long finished books run

This is the median length of completed books with a recorded length, with the middle half in brackets. Length is in Chinese characters, counted over every completed book and not a sample.

Median length Middle half of books
JJWXC about 85,000 10,000 to 237,000
Qidian about 106,000 22,000 to 435,000
Fanqie about 224,000 114,000 to 435,000
Faloo about 344,000 162,000 to 819,000
Zongheng about 694,000 304,000 to 1.28 million
Qimao about 880,000 440,000 to 1.44 million

JJWXC and Qidian have the shortest middles, and the two smallest platforms, Qimao and Zongheng, have the longest by a distance. Qimao's median finished book is about 880,000 characters, about ten times JJWXC's.

Two cautions. Qimao reports length in round steps, so its figures are coarse, and a finished Qimao book is a long one by any reading. And JJWXC's low middle is real: it holds a huge number of short works next to its famous long ones. A thousand Chinese characters comes out at very roughly 600 to 700 English words, so the median finished Qimao novel is something like 550,000 English words.

If you're choosing what to translate or read, length decides whether it's a month or a year. The Max length and Min length filters are on every catalogue page.

What each platform is made of

The largest categories on each platform, by the platform's own primary category, with the share of its books in brackets.

Qidian

Fanqie

JJWXC

Faloo

Qimao

Zongheng

Read across, six platforms make four kinds of literature.

  • Fantasy first: Qidian and Zongheng. Qidian also has a light novel shelf of about 100,000 books.
  • Romance and urban first: Fanqie and Qimao, and Faloo once you count Urban Romance. Romance in its two main forms is more than a third of Qimao.
  • Fanfiction as a shelf of its own: about one Faloo book in four is fanfiction, and Fanqie's anime fanfiction alone is more than 120,000 books.
  • Orientation, not setting: JJWXC doesn't file by setting at all. Romance and danmei are about four books in five, and baihe alone has nearly four times as many books as Qimao's biggest category.

Genre names are the platform's own, so "Urban" or "Fantasy" mean slightly different things on different sites. The platform guides explain each one: Faloo, Qimao, Zongheng and JJWXC.

What this changes

Size and finish rate don't go together. JJWXC is the biggest platform and Faloo the fourth, and they're the two with the lowest finished shares. If you want a book with an ending, the smallest catalogues are the safest. Use the status filter on the big ones.

Free doesn't mean short. Fanqie and Qimao are free reading apps, and their finished books have medians two to eight times Qidian's.

The medians are not the famous books. Nearly every English-language favourite is far from the median on its own platform. The point of these numbers is to show what the shelf behind them looks like.

How this was counted

Books listed, authors and completed come from the same daily snapshot the stats page reads, taken for October 2026. Lengths and genre shares are a fresh count on the same day over the same books: titled, not hidden, filed under the platform's primary category. Each book counts under one genre only. Lengths leave out the few completed books with no recorded length.

For the three-platform version, with its tags and its read on danmei and romance, see Qidian, Fanqie and JJWXC by the numbers.
