v1.13.1

More from the API: comments, history and batches

The API now gives a book's reader comments and its figures day by day, answers up to 50 books in one request, re-checks for free, and has ten times the daily units.

新增

  • A book's comments in the API. GET /api/v1/books/{source}/{id}/comments gives what readers say about a book, most liked or newest first, 20 a page and 5 pages deep in each order, and nothing about who wrote them.
  • A book's history in the API. GET /api/v1/books/{source}/{id}/history gives the book's figures for every day since 15 October 2026, with the days between changes filled in, for 1 unit.
  • Several books at once. GET /api/v1/books?ids= answers up to 50 books in one request, in the order you asked, each marked found, moved or not found, for 5 units.
  • Free re-checks. Every API answer carries an ETag, and asking again with it in If-None-Match gets a 304 that costs no units when nothing has changed.
  • No long waits. A request the API cannot answer within 3 seconds now gets a 503 query_timeout at once, with Retry-After and its units refunded, instead of hanging.

优化

  • Higher API limits: 120 requests a minute and 50,000 units a day for every account, up from 60 and 5,000. A project that needs more can ask by email for limits of its own.
  • The API guide at /developers is rewritten to be followed top to bottom: a quickstart in curl, Python and JavaScript, the limits, a recipe for keeping a list of books in sync, and terms that now say how reader comments may be used.
v1.13

Stats pages, other names and a round of polish

A page of figures for the whole catalogue and one for each source, other names for a novel on its page and in search, Back that returns at once, better English for more books, and a long run of fixes to labels, lists, filters and layout.

新增

  • Stats pages. The whole catalogue and each source have a page of figures: size, growth, what was added and updated this week, how much is translated, and the books climbing the boards.
  • Other names. A book page shows the other names a novel is known by, and search finds a novel by any of them.
  • A book that has no description at its source now says so, instead of promising a translation that is not coming. A description that is only punctuation counts as none.
  • A Qidian book whose details have not arrived yet says so on its page, as the other sources' do, instead of showing an empty page.

优化

  • A ranking's daily move is a coloured arrow at the end of the author line, a page heading's Updated time is the size of the count beside it, and on a phone a book's description shows three lines.
  • A novel translated on RandomTranslator now has the same English title here as there.
  • Well-known novels now show the English title readers know them by, and the title they had here before is listed under Other names.
  • Back and Forward return to the page you came from at once, at the place you left it, with no loading bar. On a phone, a swipe back ends on the right page.
  • More novels get the full English translation: the causes behind most rejected translations are fixed, pen names come back in English, and emoticons a writer drew are kept as drawn.
  • Library pages answer faster: Fanqie with one or several broad tags, Faloo's deep pages under one tag, and Zongheng's deep pages sorted by clicks.
  • Source pills on a phone scroll sideways, with the one you are on kept in view.
  • The title on a book page is sized to lead the page, one step above its section headings.
  • Booklist descriptions keep the line breaks their author wrote.
  • Similar tags that read the same in English now read differently, so you can tell Fanqie's lookalike tags apart.
  • A booklist that shows only one book is left out of the lists until a second book is back, so a list is always more than a bookmark. A list found empty is left out too.
  • Faloo's score column is called Score, as its sort is.
  • Filters that combine an audience with a word range answer in a fraction of a second.
  • Search suggestions start at the third letter, and say Searching while they look.
  • You can keep 100 saved searches, up from 20.
  • Every page of a book's comments fills to ten readable comments.
  • The home page's cover wall pauses under your pointer, and a cover opens its book.
  • Deep catalogue and booklist pages say which page you are on. A ranking badge on a book opens the page of the board its place is on, and Qidian's genre boards are each named for their genre.
  • The filter chip names the tag when one tag is applied.
  • Dropdowns: Enter in the search picks the first match, typing jumps to an option, Home and End work from the button, and a long option ends in an ellipsis instead of wrapping.
  • The theme and account buttons in the header show their names on hover, and wide tables and code on the blog and the API guide scroll with the keyboard.
  • The first covers on browse, rankings and your shelf load straight away.

修复

  • Stat labels on a book fit their tiles on narrow phones and at tablet widths, and a lone last tile spans both columns.
  • On the stats pages, books added are compared with the week before only once there are two full weeks to compare, and the growth charts begin where the figures do. A lone chart spans the full width, and the table by source fits a small phone.
  • A cover's monogram skips the bracketed tag some titles open with.
  • Curator notes that are only punctuation or question marks no longer show as a note.
  • Titles and pen names on Faloo, JJWXC and Qidian no longer show stray markup such as   or a line break tag.
  • Qidian books that are empty shells, with almost no text and a handful of chapters, are left out until they gain text.
  • Fanqie's broad genres count the right books when filtered by recent updates.
  • On a phone, the copy button stays beside a long title instead of falling onto the author line.
  • A booklist offers Other lists with only when another list holds the book.
  • Error text in the dark theme is easier to read.
  • Escape on the sign-in panel that Save, Follow or Report opened returns you to that button.
  • Small layout fixes: the filter panel's folded fields fade in instead of jumping, tag index letters line up with their tags, book picker covers no longer touch, a selected tick stays beside its label, and search no longer leaves a stray dot when links wrap.
v1.12

A public API, easier reading and one title per novel

Read the catalogue from your own scripts and tools with an API key, text a size up across the site, filters built for a phone, and the same English title for a novel wherever it is listed.

新增

  • A public API. Create a key on your account page and read books, rankings, booklists, tags and search on all six sources as JSON. Every account has one key, 60 requests a minute and 5,000 units a day. The guide is at /developers, with an OpenAPI document and an llms.txt for AI tools.
  • Just completed: the home page lists novels that have just finished, in place of Recently updated.
  • A book page now says when a novel is no longer available on its source, and keeps showing what was last seen there. Request a translation is left out for those, since there are no chapters to fetch.
  • Qidian's monthly votes boards for each genre run to 500 places.
  • The status page shows whether the API is up, beside the website, search and rankings.

优化

  • Text is a size larger across the site, and one scale now holds everywhere: titles in a list are the same size on every page, the line under a title is quieter, and buttons, fields and chips each have one height.
  • One novel reads under one English title, pen name and synopsis on every source that lists it, where copies used to disagree.
  • Filters on a phone open in the site's own panel, never the system picker. Applied filters come first with Clear all after them, and the count of results sits in the page header.
  • On a phone, Request a translation and Save are two full-width buttons on a book page, and every book page uses the same layout whether it has tags and honours or not.
  • Fanqie's genres are complete: categories that sat outside its male and female channels are now genres you can browse and filter by.
  • About, the policies and the guides fill the page, with their contents listed beside the text. The changelog is laid out like the blog, with the list of releases beside it, and the footer is simpler.
  • Reader comments show emoji where they showed sticker names in brackets, repeated marks read "!!!" rather than "! ! !", and a title quoted inside a synopsis or a booklist note is set in quotes.
  • The home page's reader comments come from eight different novels, and its genre chips are the genre's name alone.
  • Picking a novel in the booklists filter answers several times faster, and covers from slow image hosts now arrive instead of staying blank.
  • Old addresses from the earlier site lead to their new pages.

修复

  • Print and store editions on Qidian, which are not web novels, no longer appear in its catalogue.
  • Zongheng's monthly tickets were stored under the wrong figure. The numbers and their history are corrected.
  • English titles with a decade or an ordinal read "1980s" and "7th", not "1980S" and "7Th".
  • Wide tables on the guides no longer lose their right edge, and booklist titles line up on a phone.
  • Downloading your library no longer leaves the loading bar running, and Regenerate key asks its question without moving the buttons.
  • Lines of small text that wrap no longer touch the line above, including Report under a book's details and a booklist's facts.
v1.11

Minimum filters, a new filter panel and the same novel across sources

Filter every catalogue by a minimum of its own numbers, hide novels that look dropped, use one compact filter panel on every list, and see where else a novel is listed.

新增

  • Minimum filters on every catalogue, each using the numbers that source really has: recommendations and fans on Qidian, reads and score on Fanqie, favorites on JJWXC, flowers on Faloo, score, ratings and popularity on Qimao, and clicks, favorites and recommendations on Zongheng. The steps were cut from the real spread of each number, so every step leaves a list worth browsing.
  • Hide dropped: one switch on browse, on your shelf and inside a booklist hides unfinished novels with no new chapter in six months.
  • A new filter panel, the same on every list. On a computer the filters you use most stay in view, the rest open under them, and each change applies at once. On a phone, Filters opens a sheet and Show results applies everything together. Applied filters sit under the bar as badges you can remove one at a time, with Clear all and Save search beside them.
  • Booklists can be filtered by how many books they hold and by how followed they are, and a booklist's own page can narrow its books by status, length, Hide dropped and whether the curator left a note.
  • Your shelf has the same panel, with Updated within and Hide dropped added.
  • Also on: a book page now says when the same novel is listed on another source, and links to its page there with that source's own numbers, tags and comments.
  • A tag index for each source: every tag with its book count, from the Tags link in the footer.

优化

  • Book pages lead with the synopsis, right under the title and facts. On wider screens the tags and honours sit beside it and reader comments run two across, so nothing stretches into lines too long to read.
  • Book pages link What these numbers mean to the guide for that source, and name who wrote the English.
  • Novels on a ranking board are translated first, so charted books on Qimao and Zongheng get their proper English titles and synopses sooner.
  • Blog posts keep the page's own frame, with the post's contents listed beside the text on a computer.
  • Search suggestions show the Chinese title when you type in Chinese, and offer the other sources when the one you picked has no match.
  • The home page's booklist shelf leads with lists readers follow, and its genre chips show which source they open.
  • Filtered views open faster, most of all the first time anyone asks for a combination, and covers that are slow to arrive no longer hold a page up.
  • Wide screens get a slightly wider page, tablets get layouts of their own, and list rows keep their genre, length and status on one line.
  • Old links that used gender for the audience filter still work and now read audience on every source.

修复

  • English synopses on JJWXC that were a translation of the short teaser, not of the full synopsis, are being redone from the full text.
  • Empty placeholder records on JJWXC, untitled and without any text, no longer appear in the catalogue.
  • Reader comments made only of punctuation no longer show as tall empty cards.
  • The JJWXC booklists page could wait half a minute on one cover hosted elsewhere. It loads at once now.
  • A saved Qidian search keeps its Updated filter.
v1.10.1

Free or paid on JJWXC

Find JJWXC novels that are free to read, or the paid (VIP) ones, and see which a book is on its page.

新增

  • JJWXC browse has a free or paid filter: show only novels that are free to read, or only the paid (VIP) ones, alongside every other filter and sort.
  • Every JJWXC book page says whether it is free or paid, beside its theme, POV and age rating, and the chip opens the catalogue filtered the same way.
v1.10

Chinese names, sharper search and novels back in the catalogue

Show any title, author and booklist name in Chinese beside its English, a header search that finds what you meant, one source picked for the whole site, and novels that were hidden by mistake brought back.

新增

  • Show Chinese names: one switch (the 中 button in the header, or the menu on a phone) shows each book's Chinese title and author beside the English, and each booklist's Chinese name, across browse, search, rankings and booklists. A name that does not fit moves to its own line rather than being cut off. Your choice is remembered.
  • One source for the whole header: pick Qidian, Fanqie, JJWXC, Faloo, Qimao or Zongheng beside the search, and Rankings, Browse, Booklists and the search all follow it. Switching source on a rankings, catalogue or booklists page opens the same page for the new source, and the home page's Top charts and Booklists tabs open on your source too.
  • Paste a book link from any of the six sites into the search, even with words around it or a chapter link, and it opens that book.
  • Notifications have a read toggle on every row and Mark all as read beside the count.
  • The home page's Top charts are one board per store behind tabs, with the top three as covers.

优化

  • Header search suggestions put the books you most likely meant first: each store's most popular match, titles that start with what you typed, and at most two books that merely share a common name.
  • Searching a title in the catalogue finds every book whose title contains it; similar titles appear only when nothing matches, and the page says so. One and two character titles find every match, fullwidth letters and curly apostrophes search like ordinary ones, and %, _ and backslash match themselves.
  • The tag filter finds a tag by its Chinese name on every source.
  • Zongheng, Qimao and Faloo browse open on a monthly or recent figure, and the browse filters read in a steadier order.
  • Better English: short names from a fandom glossary are no longer forced into ordinary words (小白 is "novice" in a sentence, not a character called Xiao Bai), and booklist notes always show the English of the note you are reading.
  • Booklists drop the books their curators removed, so a list shows what it holds today.
  • Rankings that get shorter no longer keep books left over from an older board, and Fanqie's boards no longer rename the books on them.
  • Every copy of a book shows its Read the translation button.
  • Profile pages and their pictures no longer reveal anything about when an account was made, and sign-in, including connecting a second account, is harder to tamper with.

修复

  • Fanqie novels filed under Other, Romance and Workplace, and Zongheng's officialdom novels, were hidden from the catalogue by mistake. They are back.
  • A rare fault on one page no longer takes the rest of the site down with it.
  • Unusual or malformed addresses get a clear error page instead of a server error.
  • The notifications page no longer shifts as you read, the home headline is a calmer size, and on a phone the Qimao and Zongheng audience switch has a row of its own.
  • The Terms now say what happens after a username reset: you can choose a new name straight away.
v1.9

Zongheng joins the catalogue

Zongheng (纵横中文网) becomes the sixth source, with its ranking boards, its own reader figures and reader comments.

新增

  • Zongheng is the sixth source. Browse its novels with translated titles, synopses, genres and tags, filter by audience, genre, status, length and last update, and sort by clicks, favorites, monthly tickets, recommendations, fans, word count or last update.
  • Zongheng's nine ranking boards, from monthly tickets to bestsellers and new books, for male and female readers and for each of Zongheng's main categories, with daily movement.
  • Zongheng book pages show Zongheng's own figures (clicks, favorites, fans, monthly tickets with the book's place this month, and recommendations), reader comments, similar books and more from the same author. Zongheng has no booklists and no ratings, so neither appears.
  • Zongheng books work everywhere the other sources do: your shelves and daily digests, saved searches, reports, the search scope and the RSS feed at /zongheng/feed.xml.
v1.8

Qimao joins the catalogue

Qimao (七猫免费小说) becomes the fifth source alongside Qidian, Fanqie, JJWXC and Faloo, with its rankings, booklists and reader comments.

新增

  • Qimao is the fifth source. Browse its web novels with translated titles, synopses, genres and tags, filter by audience, genre, status, length and last update, and sort by popularity, readers, must-read votes, ratings or score.
  • Qimao's ranking boards, each for male and female readers and for every category Qimao publishes, with daily movement.
  • Qimao booklists, with their curators' notes, and Qimao book pages with reader comments, similar books, more from the same author and the booklists a novel appears in.
  • Qimao books and lists work everywhere the other sources do: your shelves and daily digests, following lists, saved searches, reports, the search scope and the RSS feed at /qimao/feed.xml.
v1.7

Better English, and a cleaner site

Book and booklist text is being retranslated by GPT-6 Luna with a glossary for fandoms and recurring terms. A full UI pass also brings source icons, a new phone menu, server-side sorting for comments and booklists, and an Updated filter on every catalogue.

新增

  • Book titles, pen names and synopses, and booklist titles and descriptions, are being retranslated with GPT-6 Luna. Charted books and booklists go first and the rest of the catalogue follows in the background, so older pages switch over gradually. Anything not retranslated yet keeps its Google Translate English.
  • A translation glossary keeps fandoms and recurring terms consistent. 斗罗 is always Douluo Dalu, 火影 at the start of a title is Naruto, and 海贼 is One Piece, on every book that carries them. A pen name is translated once and reused on every book by that author.
  • The footer of every book page names the engine behind its English, next to when the book was last refreshed and the Report link: "Refreshed 5h ago | GPT-6 Luna | Report".
  • An Updated filter on every catalogue: within 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years or 4 years of the author's last update. Saved searches keep it.
  • Booklist pages on all four sources have a sort control, and it sorts the whole list across every page instead of only the rows on screen. Sort by the list's figures, word count or last update. Rows are numbered in the order you see them.
  • Comments on book pages load ten at a time from the server, with a Load more button and a Likes or Latest toggle. Before, only the first 30 were reachable. Your sort choice is remembered.
  • Keyboard shortcuts: / or Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac) jumps to search, the Left and Right arrows page through a list, Escape closes menus, and ? shows them all.
  • Each source shows its own app icon in the menus, the search scope picker, the home page and the blog.

优化

  • The phone menu is now a Sources drawer. Each source is one row that opens its pages underneath it, one at a time, and Blog has a row of its own.
  • The header scrolls away with the page instead of staying pinned. On desktop the source menus and the search scope open on hover, and the scope shows just the source's icon.
  • The home page has a new tagline, "What China reads, before the translations catch up.", with the four platforms under it, each linking to its catalogue. Recent comments now lead with the book's cover and title.
  • Book pages lay out the same on every source. The facts grid always shows Status, Length, Genre, Subgenre (Era on JJWXC), Updated and Source, and says Unknown where a source doesn't say. Audience moves into the tags row, every synopsis line is its own paragraph, and every honour shows without a Show all fold.
  • Tags and honours are grey label badges, and outlined buttons are the ones you can press, so Save and Follow no longer look like more tags. Selected chips share one style across the site.
  • Filters come in the same order on every catalogue: Author, Audience (POV on JJWXC), Genre, Subgenre, Status, Min words, Max words, Updated. The booklist filter panels fold away and remember whether you left them open, like the browse ones.
  • The "In booklists" rail on a book page leads with the most recently updated list.
  • Sign in shows Google and Discord side by side, and the report dialog's reason picker works on phones.
  • On phones, short menus in bottom sheets lay out in two columns, and form fields use the same 14px text as desktop.
  • Blog posts are numbered and show the platforms they cover.

修复

  • A booklist's row and its own page no longer disagree on how many books it holds.
  • Booklist rows no longer number ties as 1, 1, 1, 2.
  • Jumping to a heading from a blog post's contents no longer leaves a large gap above it.
v1.6.1

Soft navigation and a tidier catalogue

Moving between pages no longer reloads the whole site, and a big cleanup hid duplicate novels, video series, withdrawn records and abandoned drafts across all four sources.

新增

  • Soft navigation: following a link swaps only the page content while the header and footer stay put, with a thin progress bar at the top while it loads. Back and Forward reuse the page and put you where you were.
  • Faloo gets Monthly reads and Monthly flowers sorts. Row figures follow the sort you picked, so the all-time sorts show all-time totals and the monthly ones show this month's. Book pages show this month's reads and flowers beside the totals.
  • A title or author search with no matches offers the same search on the other three sources.
  • The not-found page has a search box and a link to each catalogue.
  • Two new blog posts: a Faloo explainer and a guide to saved searches and shelves.

优化

  • Duplicate copies of the same novel are hidden on all four sources, keeping the best copy. Titles that differ only in punctuation count as the same, sequels and volumes stay separate, and anything you saved on a hidden copy moves to the one that stays.
  • Fanqie's video, animation and comic series are hidden. They had taken over the top of the catalogue, and the most-read books are novels again.
  • JJWXC hides drafts under 30,000 characters with almost no readers and no activity in two years, and Faloo hides records Faloo itself has withdrawn and one-chapter openings abandoned for a year.
  • Honours on book pages fold a genre placement into the overall one ("Monthly Votes · Eastern Fantasy #1") and list the best ranks first.
  • Synopses, booklist notes and comments drop separator lines of dashes, asterisks and dots.
  • Faloo tags that arrived cut to two characters show their full names, with proper English.
  • Faloo book pages keep six stats: chapters, reads and flowers (each all time and this month) and score.
  • Catalogue pages only show Apply, Reset and Save search when there is something to apply, which gives phones more room for results. Tap targets on pagination and ranking tabs are larger.
  • Big numbers read as billions where they should (1.7B, not 1697.6M).
  • Book and booklist pages load from cache much more often, and times like "5h ago" stay correct on a cached page. Pages also jump around less while they load.
  • Searching one or two Chinese characters in a title, and several broad filter pages that used to time out, now answer in well under a second.
  • The header search field appears on tablets and small laptop windows, and suggestions without a cover show a monogram.

修复

  • Tapping a search suggestion on an iPhone works the first time.
  • Faloo ranking boards that have no figure of their own no longer print one.
  • /qidian, /fanqie, /jjwxc and /faloo open the catalogue instead of a not-found page.
v1.6

Save your searches

Save a filtered catalogue search and come back to it from your account menu, report wrong metadata from any book page, and browse with the keyboard more easily.

新增

  • Save a filtered catalogue search from a dialog without leaving the page, then return to it from Searches in the account menu or on your shelf. Saved searches show readable filter summaries and can be searched, sorted and filtered by source.
  • Download your saved books, followed booklists and saved searches from your Account page.
  • Found wrong metadata? The report link on every book page sends it straight to the DaoSearch team, with the book attached.
  • Book pages show when their details were last refreshed.

优化

  • Filters and tag suggestions work with the keyboard, the highlighted suggestion stays in view, and Chinese and Japanese input methods work in pickers and selects.
  • Book pages list more from the same author before the booklists a novel appears in.
  • Faloo genres and tags have curated English labels, and metric labels say which period they cover.
  • Browse controls behave consistently when you change filters quickly, and a search you are still typing or have dismissed no longer shows stale results.
  • Mobile menus return focus when dismissed, and updated browse counts are announced to screen readers.
  • Broad Faloo, Fanqie and JJWXC filter pages are faster.
v1.5

Faloo joins the catalogue

Faloo becomes the fourth source alongside Qidian, Fanqie and JJWXC, and the whole site gets a more comfortable reading width.

新增

  • Faloo is the fourth source. Browse its novels with translated metadata, genres, tags, audience, word counts and status, and explore its ranking boards and reader-made booklists.
  • Faloo book pages bring together reader comments, similar-book recommendations, more from the same author and the booklists a novel appears in.
  • This changelog, linked from the footer.

优化

  • Reads, Flowers and Tickets stay consistent across Faloo listings, using monthly figures where Faloo has them and known totals where it doesn't. Every ranking row keeps three relevant stats, with shorter labels.
  • Chapter counts sit in the same place on book pages across all sources.
  • The home page balances all four sources.
  • One page width across the site, more comfortable reading on wide screens, and paragraphs at one size on detail and editorial pages.
  • Sparse Faloo filters and long title suggestions are faster.

修复

  • Show more links appear reliably after the page reflows on a resize or rotation.
  • Menu icons no longer jump when a navigation menu opens.
v1.4.1

Smoother on phones

Menus on phones open as bottom sheets, pages open faster from a hover, and Back returns you exactly where you were. Book pages gain more by this author on every source.

新增

  • On a phone, the shelf menu, Save, sign in, the account menu and dropdowns open as a sheet from the bottom of the screen, with a backdrop and swipe to dismiss.
  • "More by this author" on Qidian and Fanqie book pages, as JJWXC already had.

优化

  • On desktop, book and booklist pages start loading when you hover a link, so they often open instantly.
  • Back to a browse page returns to where you were reading, not where the page first opened.
  • The site font is served from DaoSearch itself, so text no longer reflows when the font arrives on a first visit.
  • Your Library shows saved books as the catalogue does, each with its own source's figures and the bookmark to move or remove it.
  • Search suggestions are much faster, especially for common English words, and the header search starts on the source of the page you're on.
  • Long-pressing a button or chip on a phone no longer selects its text, and cover rails fade out only where there is more to scroll.
  • From a phone and desktop review: larger tap targets, clearer muted text, dropdowns that stay on screen, and pagination that shows two pages either side of the current one.

修复

  • Deep pages of very long Fanqie booklists load instead of timing out.
  • Going Back to a scrolled rankings page keeps your place.
  • Fanqie books that were stuck on Not indexed yet get their details, and stay out of the home comment feed until they do.
  • Tapping to close a menu no longer follows the link under your finger, and the row bookmark menu no longer closes on the tap that opens it.
v1.4

Your own library

Sign in with Google or Discord to save novels to shelves and follow booklists. Books RandomTranslator has translated now link straight to the translation.

新增

  • Optional sign in with Google or Discord. Browsing stays open to everyone, and an account is only needed when you want to save things.
  • Save any novel from its book page, or from the bookmark on any ranking, browse or booklist row, to one of five shelves: Planned, Reading, Paused, Finished or Dropped. A saved bookmark takes its shelf's colour.
  • Your Library shows everything you've saved, with a tab per shelf and filters for source, genre and the tags on your own saves. Sort by when you saved it, when it last updated, when you last changed it, title or length.
  • Follow booklists from their page or from any booklist row, and find them again under Lists in the account menu. A list that disappears from its source stays in yours, marked as no longer available.
  • Books RandomTranslator has translated, fully or as a preview, show Read the translation instead of Request a translation.
  • Qidian's monthly votes ranking goes down to position 500.

优化

  • Honours on Qidian book pages lead with monthly votes placements, and show up to 12.
  • Search suggestions answer one and two character Chinese searches quickly.
  • The home page's recent comments are eight cards, four across on desktop.
  • Tag, author and other filtered catalogue pages are faster.

修复

  • Synopses no longer come out with leftover Chinese lines. Lines Google left untranslated are retried one by one.
v1.3

Better keyword browsing

Title and author searches now work with every sort, so you can find a fandom or keyword and rank the results by votes, popularity or update time. The home page was redesigned around the charts.

新增

  • Text searches on browse pages filter the catalogue and keep its normal order, and you can pick any other sort on top. Looking for Marvel fanfiction on Qidian? Search for it, then sort the matches by monthly votes.
  • A redesigned home page: every source's top chart side by side, booklists in one tabbed section, and recent comments quote first. Genre chips take turns across the sources.
  • Six new blog posts, including a JJWXC explainer, a guide to searching DaoSearch and a glossary of the English labels for danmei, baihe and no-CP.

优化

  • Qidian's Recommends is the site's total recommendation count, the figure Qidian itself shows.
  • JJWXC's chapter count sits in the stats band, as on the other sources.
  • Covers come in 1x and 2x sizes and images from outside hosts are resized, so pages download far less. Share cards use the book's cover and no longer go blank.
  • Filtered catalogue pages and search result counts are much faster.
  • Desktop pages no longer shift sideways when the scrollbar appears.

  • JJWXC rankings that showed only one or two books are full again, after books were wrongly hidden.
  • Covers that stayed blank after a failed load now show.
  • Booklist pages no longer repeat or skip a book between pages.
  • JJWXC's awaiting review notice no longer shows up as a comment.
v1.2

JJWXC arrives

JJWXC joins as the third source, opening up danmei, romance, baihe and fanfiction. Junk entries are filtered out of the catalogue, and genre and tag names read the same on every source.

新增

  • JJWXC is the third source, with its own catalogue, book pages, rankings and booklists, and a rankings column and booklist shelf on the home page. Pasting a JJWXC book link into search finds the book.
  • JJWXC rankings cover its site-wide boards and its per-channel boards, with English names from JJWXC's own channel names.
  • Sort JJWXC by Favorites, Clicks per chapter or Nutrition, and filter by point of view, with options such as gong lead, shou lead, switching and dual POV where JJWXC provides them.
  • JJWXC book pages show theme, point of view and age rating as chips, and link to more by the same author. JJWXC doesn't provide similar-book recommendations, so we don't invent them.
  • JJWXC booklists with A, B and C grades, and a grade filter.
  • The Stats page shows how many books are hidden on each source, and why.

优化

  • Low-content entries are hidden: JJWXC's reviews, poems, rhymes, withheld books and abandoned fragments, and Fanqie's textbooks, audiobooks, short dramas and empty stubs.
  • Genre and tag names are curated so one Chinese term reads the same in English on every source. Fanfiction is spelled one way everywhere.
  • Booklists with fewer than two books, or a meaningless name, are hidden.
  • JJWXC comments leave out the automatic tipping messages and repeated site notices.
  • Qidian's Updated sort follows the author's last update, and two sorts that gave misleading results were removed.
  • Home page genre chips open the source that actually holds the genre.
  • Pages load faster: scripts are cached between pages, responses are compressed and covers start loading sooner. Covers that used to stay blank now display, and Fanqie covers download at a fraction of the size.
  • Page-to-page navigation is plain and instant, which also fixes Back losing your scroll position on an iPhone.

修复

  • Tag, genre and author filters that took seconds and then failed now load, including Qidian tag pages that showed no books.
  • JJWXC books no longer lose their tags, or show up with no title and author.
  • Booklists with no title return not found instead of an empty page, and other spellings of a list's address redirect to the right one.
v1.1.1

Search one source at a time

The header search can be scoped to one source, big booklists are paged, and a round of fixes brought missing Fanqie titles, covers and genres back.

新增

  • The header search has a source picker. Suggestions, results and Advanced search all stay in the source you chose, and it remembers your choice.
  • Booklist pages show 50 books a page on both sources, so even the biggest Fanqie lists show in full.
  • Fanqie's tags have curated English written for web-novel readers, replacing literal machine translations.

优化

  • On phones, the three figures under every ranking, browse and booklist row line up in columns.
  • Short Chinese title searches, tag suggestions, author pages and booklist searches by book are much faster.
  • The blog is easier to read, with a wider column and normal text size.
  • One or two character author searches return exact matches instead of everything that contains them.
  • On an iPhone, the page shows through Safari's bottom toolbar, and the toolbar matches the footer at the end of a page.

修复

  • A translation backlog cleared, so waiting titles and booklists got their English.
  • Fanqie fan-fiction titles that showed as asterisks get their full titles, and titles no longer flip to old or alternate names.
  • Fanqie books found only through booklists get their genre and word count, and broken Fanqie covers were repaired.
  • A Fanqie booklist note shows once instead of under every book it recommends.
  • The search source menu no longer hides behind the suggestions or sticks out of the search box.
  • Broad author searches and Fanqie's Score and Shelves sorts no longer time out.
v1.1

Fanqie arrives

Fanqie becomes the second source on DaoSearch, with the same browse flow as Qidian, plus its ranking boards, booklists and reviews. The blog launches too.

新增

  • Fanqie is the second source, with its own catalogue, book pages and rankings. Its books show Reads, Score and Shelves, with translated titles, genres, tags, word counts and status filters.
  • Fanqie's nine ranking boards with English names: Most Read, Recommended, Hall of Fame, Dark Horses, New Books, Most Followed, Reader Buzz, Completed and Reader Gifts.
  • Anonymized Fanqie reviews on book pages, up to the 50 most liked.
  • Fanqie booklists, and a list of the booklists each Fanqie book appears in. Find lists that contain a book with the book picker.
  • A male and female audience filter for Fanqie, and an all-time reads sort beside current reads.
  • Supported Fanqie links can be pasted into search, or sent to RandomTranslator through Request a translation.
  • The navigation has one entry per source, each opening its own pages.
  • The home page shows both sources: Fanqie's Most Read beside Qidian's monthly votes, Fanqie's Hall of Fame, a booklist shelf for each source, and recently updated books from both.
  • The blog, with guides to finding Chinese web novels on DaoSearch.

优化

  • Qidian's catalogue lives at /qidian/library, and old links redirect.
  • Filter links are short and shareable, filter chips read as plain phrases, and the filter panel stays open while you keep filtering.
  • Each catalogue's genre, subgenre and tag choices come from that source only, and tag counts match what the filter returns.
  • Fanqie subgenres have hand-written English, and near-duplicate Fanqie uploads show once.
  • Fanqie covers load in every browser and are much smaller.
  • Catalogue pages load several times faster, and tag, author and multi-tag filters went from seconds to milliseconds. So did search suggestions.

修复

  • The first tap on the source menus did nothing on phones and touchscreen laptops.
  • Fanqie books with a blank genre or status.
  • Timeouts on author filters and broad Fanqie tags.
v1.0.1

Booklists grow up

Booklists got real filters, many more lists and a way to find every list a book is on. Book pages gained Request a translation and a link to the source.

新增

  • Many more booklists, with filters for tags, kind, minimum books and minimum follows, and sorts by Follows, Books or Updated. Tags are in English and clickable, and lists holding nothing we index are hidden.
  • Find every booklist that contains a book, with a book picker that shows covers and authors. A book page's In booklists count is the true total, with an Explore more link.
  • Similar booklists on every booklist page.
  • Request a translation on book pages opens RandomTranslator's request form with the Chinese title and author filled in.
  • A Source link on book pages to the novel on Qidian.
  • Rankings are paged at 50 a page.
  • Privacy, Terms and Contact pages.
  • A sitemap, and booklist share images that use the first book's cover.

优化

  • The catalogue grew a lot, with published histories and military non-fiction kept out.
  • Charts refresh every six hours instead of daily.
  • Titles are translated instead of spelled out in pinyin, repetition glitches like "Gua Gua Gua" are gone, new books get English within hours, and a book is retranslated when its Chinese title, author or synopsis changes.
  • A pasted Qidian link shows as a result in both search boxes, Chinese titles match despite punctuation and spacing, and popular books come first among equal matches.
  • Comments keep their paragraph breaks, and Qidian's emoji codes show as emoji.
  • On phones, rows have bigger covers, the footer was redesigned, and double-tapping a button no longer zooms.
  • Tag-filtered browsing and the booklists page are much faster. Very large counts show as 10,000+, with a note explaining why.

修复

  • Link previews for browse, rankings and booklists showed a random book cover.
  • Empty booklist cards on the home page.
  • Book pages' In booklists count stuck at 24, and booklist cards showing the wrong follow count.
v1.0

A fresh start

DaoSearch was rebuilt as a faster, leaner site focused on useful Qidian listings, with official rankings, tags, booklists and reader comments in English. The new foundation makes it easier to add more raw sources.

新增

  • A rankings page for Qidian's official charts. Pick a chart and a genre, and each row shows votes, recommendations and fans, with a marker for books that moved up, down or are new. It remembers the chart and genre you last looked at.
  • A rebuilt browse page with title and author search, genre and subgenre, status, word count presets, and tags to include or exclude. Sort by monthly votes, recommendations, fans, words or recently added.
  • A male and female audience filter, worked out from each book's genre.
  • Book pages with a facts grid, stats, Honours badges for every chart the book is on, Qidian's similar-book recommendations and the booklists it appears in. Genres, tags and authors link straight into browse.
  • Anonymized reader comments from Qidian, with real reviews first and campaign, check-in and spam posts filtered out.
  • Reader-made booklists with cover decks and curator notes, sortable by votes, recommendations or fans.
  • A home page with the monthly votes chart, recently updated books, booklists, genres and the latest comments, and a Stats page for the catalogue.
  • Paste a Qidian book link into search to go straight to its page. Title search tolerates typos.

优化

  • Qidian's official tags and genres, with curated English names, make fandom and trope searches far more useful. Titles are cased properly around brackets, hyphens and acronyms.
  • The catalogue is several times bigger, and Qidian's print and ebook store (textbooks, cookbooks and the like) is kept out.
  • Updated times use the latest chapter, VIP chapters included, and tag suggestions show how many books you'll actually get.
  • Pages are much faster. Browse, book pages, the home page and search suggestions went from seconds to tens of milliseconds.
  • Covers are sized for where they're shown, so phones download far less, and pages start loading as you reach for a link.
  • The theme follows your device's light or dark setting until you pick one.
  • On phones, no stuck hover effects, no zoom when you tap a field, and carousels that fit the screen without trapping your scroll.

修复

  • Stray HTML in comments and booklist notes.
  • Booklists showing their creation date and looking years out of date.
  • The home page's link preview showing the logo as a huge square.
