Chinese Fanfiction (同人) Guide: Naruto, One Piece, Pokemon and More
Chinese fanfiction isn't a corner of the web, it's one of the biggest shelves on every platform. Here's where it lives, what the titles look like, and how to find your fandom.

If you've read English fanfiction, forget the picture of a fan writing a short story on a hobby site. Chinese fanfiction (同人, tongren) is published on the same commercial platforms as everything else, serialised for money, and a lot of it is written to the same pace and length as an original cultivation epic. Whole readerships exist for "a Naruto fan who wants a 2,000-chapter Naruto story".
It's also one of the places English readers can already recognise what they're reading, because the source material is Naruto or Pokemon or Harry Potter. This guide covers where it is, which fandoms are biggest, how the titles read and how to browse it. Counts are books listed on DaoSearch as of October 2026, rounded.
Where the fanfiction is
Faloo is the home of it. Its Fanfiction (同人小说) channel holds about 158,000 books, roughly a quarter of the whole Faloo catalogue, and no other platform gives fanfiction that share. It splits into Anime Fanfiction and Film & TV Fanfiction. Faloo, explained.
Fanqie has the most in raw numbers. It has three fanfiction categories: Anime Fanfiction (动漫衍生), about 121,000 books, Male-Channel Fanfiction (男频衍生), about 57,000, and Female-Channel Fanfiction (女频衍生), about 32,000. The anime shelf is the big one for anime and manga fandoms, and the two channel shelves hold the rest.
Qidian has no fanfiction category of its own, and still has a lot of it. The books sit in its ordinary genres. The way to see them is by fandom name in the title, or the Anime Crossover (综漫) tag, which is on about 5,100 Qidian books.
JJWXC is the one to know for female-led and romance fanfiction. It has no single fanfiction shelf, but Anime Crossover (综漫) on about 51,000 books and dedicated fandom tags like Genshin Impact on about 4,500.
Qimao and Zongheng are small here. Each has an Anime & ACG (N次元) category of about 4,100 books and a Fanfiction Romance (衍生言情) one in the hundreds.
There's also a plain Fanfiction (同人) tag. It's on about 193,000 Fanqie books and about 99,000 Faloo books, so it works as a cross-category filter.
The biggest fandoms
The most reliable way to count fandoms is by the title. Chinese fanfiction titles open with the fandom, then a colon, and the English now does the same. These are books whose English title starts with the fandom name, across all six platforms:
| Fandom | Chinese opener | Titles | Where it's biggest |
|---|---|---|---|
| Naruto | 火影 | about 21,000 | Fanqie and Faloo, about 7,500 each |
| Douluo Dalu | 斗罗 | about 19,500 | Qidian, about 14,800 |
| One Piece | 海贼 | about 13,800 | Fanqie, about 5,500 |
| Pokemon | 精灵 | about 10,700 | Fanqie and Faloo, about 4,500 and 4,200 |
| Genshin Impact | 原神 | about 9,700 | Fanqie, about 5,200 |
| Honkai: Star Rail | 星铁 | about 6,200 | Fanqie, about 4,700 |
| Harry Potter | 哈利波特 | about 5,900 | Fanqie and JJWXC, about 2,900 and 2,500 |
| Ultraman | 奥特 | about 5,600 | Fanqie, about 2,900 |
| Detective Conan | 柯学 | about 4,200 | Fanqie, about 2,000 |
| Demon Slayer | 鬼灭 | about 3,400 | Fanqie, about 2,600 |
| Marvel | 漫威 | about 3,000 | Faloo, about 1,600 |
| Battle Through the Heavens | 斗破 | about 3,200 | Qidian, about 2,200 |
Two patterns stand out.
The first is that Douluo Dalu and Battle Through the Heavens are web novels turned into fandoms. Their fanfiction is mostly on Qidian, because their original novels were Qidian books. Douluo has nearly five times as many on Qidian as on Fanqie, the next biggest.
The second is that the game fandoms are Fanqie's. Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail both have more than half their titles there, with Faloo second.
These are floors, not totals. A fanfic whose title doesn't open with the fandom, or whose English still reads the old way, isn't counted. Harry Potter is a good example: another 1,500 or so books open with "Hogwarts" instead.
How the titles are formatted
A Chinese fanfiction title is short and a formula: fandom, colon, premise. 火影:复制万物 is a Naruto story where the lead copies everything. 精灵:开局一只火神蛾 is a Pokemon story that starts with a Volcarona.
The English used to be a problem. A word-by-word translator doesn't know 火影 is Naruto, so it printed "Hokage" or nonsense. Now the fandom opener is fixed, and it comes from the glossary DaoSearch shares with RandomTranslator, about 12,900 required terms between names, techniques and fandom openers. So you get "Naruto: Copying Everything" and "Pokemon: Starting with a Volcarona", and the same fandom reads the same way on every platform. How the glossary works.
The openers only apply at the front of a title. That keeps 火影 meaning Naruto at the start and the Hokage everywhere else.
A few other conventions are useful to know:
- 综 at the start (综漫, 综影视) means a crossover: the lead moves through several fandoms. Film & TV Crossover is a Fanqie tag on about 10,000 books.
- The word "Hogwarts" in a title is the fandom even when the series name isn't there.
How to browse it
Fanfiction is easier to find than it looks, because the fandom name is in the title. Four ways in:
- Search the title with the fandom name. Titles are searched in English and Chinese, so Naruto on Faloo, Pokemon on Fanqie or Douluo Dalu on Qidian works straight away. Try the Chinese opener too, such as 火影, if a book hasn't been retranslated yet.
- Use a fandom tag where one exists. Faloo has a few: Naruto (火影), Marvel (漫威), One Piece (海贼) and Genshin Impact (原神). Tags are curated per source, so a platform without the tag isn't missing the books. Naruto is tagged on about 5,300 Faloo books and about 7,300 carry it in the title.
- Start from the fanfiction category and sort. On Faloo that's Fanfiction by flowers, a free gift readers give to a book they like, so it's the best sign a fanfic has real fans. Monthly flowers shows what readers are enjoying right now. On Fanqie, Anime Fanfiction by all-time reads is the equivalent.
- Use the rankings. Faloo's boards have a Fanfiction slice, and Fanfiction by monthly reads is more readable than the all-site board.
Whatever you pick, add Completed. Fanfiction has the same problem as the rest of the Faloo catalogue: most books are marked ongoing, and most of them stopped long ago.
Mixed-universe stories
Many fanfic leads are transmigrators. A modern person lands in the Naruto world, wakes up in Hogwarts, or takes over a Pokemon trainer's life. That's transmigration with a fandom wrapped around it, and it's why the same books show up under the Transmigration tag and a fandom one. Add a System tag and you're at the classic Faloo pairing, a cheat interface plus a world you already know.
If you want only original stories, flip it round and exclude the fanfiction tag from any search: transmigration without fanfiction on Fanqie.
If a title reads oddly
The retranslation is still working through the catalogue, so some titles keep their older English. A fanfic whose opener says something like "Star Iron" is a Honkai: Star Rail one that hasn't been reached yet. Search for the Chinese opener, or use the Report link at the bottom of the book page and choose Bad translation. If a book has a well-known English name, it shows in Other names on the book page, and search finds books by those names too.
If the English you want isn't there at all, a book's page has a Request a translation button that opens the request form on RandomTranslator with the title and author filled in.
